As a makeup artist, I’ve always been fascinated by the mysteries of the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. In my latest editorial, I wanted to dive deep into the fluid, graceful world of jellyfish and merge it with kawaii culture’s playful, pastel aesthetics. The result? A jellyfish-inspired makeup look that’s both futuristic and ethereal, captured through hyper-realistic photography.

The Concept

Jellyfish are some of the most mesmerizing creatures in the ocean, and their translucent, flowing forms became my central inspiration. I envisioned a sea creature look, where delicate gels and flowing shapes mimic the soft, graceful movement of jellyfish in the water. Using 3D mask elements and translucent gel shapes, I sculpted a makeup design that feels like it’s moving with the ocean’s current, glistening in the light.

The soft pastel palette—mainly pinks and yellows—brings a dreamy, kawaii-inspired vibe to the look, blending the charm of Shibuya street style with the elegance of ocean life. I wanted the makeup to have that playful, cute energy while still holding onto a sleek, minimalistic approach.

The Details: Flowing Gels & Oceanic Textures

To bring the jellyfish to life, I used translucent gels in soft, flowing shapes around the eyes and cheeks, creating an otherworldly yet beautiful effect. These gel structures shimmer in the light, enhanced by the iridescent details that catch and reflect natural brightness. The wet, shiny surfaces give the look a fresh, just-out-of-the-water glow, adding to the hyper-realism of the final photograph.

The 3D mask elements, inspired by the jellyfish’s bell shape, provide a sense of protection and elegance, wrapping around the face like an aquatic shield. This combination of futuristic structure and organic flow was crucial in capturing the delicate balance between the natural world and technology.

Kawaii Meets the Ocean

At the heart of this look is a blend of two worlds: the playful, colorful world of kawaii and the mysterious beauty of the ocean. The pastel pinks and yellows were chosen to reflect the joyful, cute energy of Shibuya’s kawaii fashion scene. Yet, there’s a modern minimalism in the design that keeps it sleek and elegant.

The soft light and the Kodak 35mm photography style give the final images a nostalgic, dreamy feel, enhancing the natural beauty of the model while maintaining the futuristic edge of the makeup. Every iridescent detail and flowing gel piece tells a story, inviting the viewer to dive deeper into this otherworldly aesthetic.

Pushing Boundaries with E-Makeup

This look wouldn’t be complete without the use of AI-driven e-makeup techniques. By blending traditional makeup artistry with the power of AI, I was able to push the boundaries of what’s possible, enhancing the hyper-realistic details and textures that bring the jellyfish-inspired look to life. It’s a mix of fantasy, beauty, and technology, all wrapped up in one dreamy editorial.

Embracing the Future of Beauty

As I continue to explore new ways to express creativity through makeup, this jellyfish-inspired look reminds me that the possibilities are endless. Whether it’s the soft pastel aesthetics or the futuristic elements, this makeup editorial tells a story of beauty’s future—where AI, imagination, and nature combine to create something truly magical.
